New Year's Eve!!

So it's New Year's Eve and I felt like posting an interesting selection of videos I recently found. Funny enough, they have something to do with the Lost tv series, which is my favorite tv show! Here are the links:

Background

The name of this blog, "Dragons Make Igneous Rocks", actually comes from one of my university geology professors. He uses this phrase as a quick bit of humor, but to me it means so much more. I saw it as a perfect blanket phrase for every irrational feeling or thought that has ever entered a human mind. From the gods of old, the superstitions of black cats and ladders, and the God of now. With this blog, I intend to discuss "dragons" of all sorts.

A quick background of me for any interested readers:
I was born in London, England, and a few years later moved to the Middle East. I stayed there for six years, until my family moved to Thunder Bay, Canada. I am still in Thunder Bay and I am attending university here.

I was raised in a Catholic family, but for the past year I have considered myself an atheist. My belief in God started to falter when I left my Catholic High School to attend University. My "deconversion" has left me with many thoughts and negative feelings about religion, but what has not changed is how I view my friends and family who are still religious. I can never view these people, whom I love and respect, in a negative light just because their beliefs differ from mine. If anything, the presence of such friends and family has allowed me to think about religion without growing a sense of hatred or mistrust. They are the sort of people I would stand beside till the end.

What I do rally against is the extremes religion can force people into. An example
being this lady in God Warrior, a fearsome force of nature.

So, what I am trying to say is that religion should be subject to thought and debate. Subject to thorough investigation and moderation in practice. Only then can the truth come out, if there be any.

The Beginning

My first post on my first blog! My reason for creating `Dragons Make Igneous Rocks` is to use it as an outlet for my thoughts and feelings about the world around us. I hope to post articles on religion, politics, recent and past events, future aspirations and anything else that passes through my mind. So goodbye for now, but hello to the beginning.
